While the idea of a permanent filler is admittedly enticing, its use carries with it a real potential risk. Permanent fillers, such as silicone, alcamid and Bellafil possess the potential to give rise not only to immediate post-treatment lumps and bumps, but to nodules that may appear five, ten and even twenty years later, especially if the treated skin is manipulated by dental work, trauma or surgery. What's more, these complications can be difficult to sometimes nearly impossible to treat even surgically without leaving scars itself. Even more so, what may look nice today, may look downright odd ten years down the road when changes in the surrounding skin and underlying tissue takes place with aging, but the permanent filler does not move or change. The use of a natural filler, such as hyaluronic acid, avoids all of the above issues, and since it is naturally metabolized with time, additional filler may be added in the future to blend with any age-related changes that have taken place by that time. Make sure that you check this out thoroughly before proceeding and be sure that you are consulting with an experienced, board certified aesthetic physician. Best of luck.
