The use of permanent fillers, like silicone, Bellafil, and Alcamid, is understandably very enticing. to achieve permanent corrections. However, there are real risks associated with this approach. For one thing, complications, like disfiguring nodules and granulomas, may not necessarily occur immediately after treatment. They may, in fact, appear five, ten or even twenty years after treatment, provoked by some manipulation of the injected area by simple things like dental work. And since the fillers are foreign substances and permanent, and there is no dissolving enzyme to remove them, these complications can be very difficult to treat even surgically without leaving scars. What's more, the normal tissues, such as skin, muscle and bone do change with the passage of time, so what may look nice right after treatment may look quite odd or unsightly twenty years later when the tissues surrounding the permanent filler implants change with age. So, bottom line, be very cautious before falling for the understandably tempting "siren song" of the word "permanent." Hope this helps.
