Microdroplet liquid injectable silicone (LIS) has been safely used for permanent nonsurgical rhinoplastic treatments for over 50 years. The great Dr. Webster described his positive 20 year experience with LIS from 1964 - 1984. My rhinoplasty teacher taught me the art of microdroplet Silikon1000 nasal injections over 20 years ago, and we have had an excellent experience, and happy patients! Our use of microdroplet Silikon1000 injections has, in part, led to a very small revision rhinoplasty rate in our patients who decide to undergo primary rhinoplasty with us. There have been no reported cases of necrosis, blindness, infection or biofilm with microdroplet Silikon1000, so its safety is unsurpassed when compared to temporary gel fillers. The negative of LIS is that once it's injected, it cannot be removed from the nose - it's permanent, but when used properly to improve minor indentations or asymmetries that may arise with postoperative healing, that's a good thing. Silikon1000 treatments do not preclude revision rhinoplasty if that becomes necessary. The plane of dissection in rhinoplasty is deep to the LIS which is deposited in the soft tissue between the skin and nasal skeleton. We have operated on noses injected with LIS without incident. Insofar as necessity, we recommend microdroplet Silikon1000 treatments in around 20% of our rhinoplasty patients to improve results without additional and often unnecessary surgery. There is NO rhinoplasty specialist who can admit to producing "perfect" rhinoplasties. The necessity of LIS in our rhinoplasty practice is to help us achieve the best results possible, and happy-happy patients. Thank you for this terrific question. Dr Joseph
