How to prevent widening of forehead scar from scar revision?

Zain21.    There are various methods to assist healing after scar revision, and they include massage of the scar daily with moisturizers and the use of over-the-counter scar creams. Also diligent follow up with your plastic surgeon is very helpful to allow your surgeon to assist you in caring for your scar in the early postop period.  Also, cover the scar from direct strong sun exposure. Be certain to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon. In the forehead there is not much tension placed along the incision and in most cases both absorbable and permanent sutures can be used to good result.  If this did not work the first time I would consider using Botox first to prevent your forehead muscle from working and causing the scar to pull over time. Hope this helps.

Permanent suture has its own implications. The ideal is to use a fine suture material in the hope of creating a narrow linear scar.  Please post photos. All scars will spread or hypertrophy to a certain degree at 6 weeks postop but then go on to heal.  A secondary revision will, by its nature, result in a longer and possibly wider scar.

In the healing process scars can widen. Forehead scar revision with deep dermal delayed absorbable sutures, like 2-0 or 3-0 monocryl, a 4-0 sub q monocryl, and then breathable covering like hypafix will help healing of the scar most optimally in my hands.

Botox 3 weeks pre excision. Meticulous excision with fine absorbable sutures augmented with skin sutures. At removal of sutures, consider microbotox to the area to again reduce muscle action, tape, and silicone. Lasers such as vascular laser can also improve the scar.
