6 months post-op. Do I have a polly beak/supratip deformity? (photos)

Question

I had my primary rhinoplasty six month ago endonasally with no work done to the tip. The tip is hard and projects from the bridge line. my surgeon told me it will go down as my swelling resolves.

Hello, thank you for your question and provided photos, based on them it seems that you have swelling and until seeint the final result, which takes at least one year. A pollybeak deformity occurs when supratip region leads the tip.Since you have edema&swelling, making certain assessment is not good, you need to finish your healing. And after seeing your final result if it is not satisfying, you can go under a revision rhinoplasty.Kindly Regards,

Thank you for the photos and your question. It looks like you do have a little supratip fullness. At 6 months postop, this may still be a little bit of swelling or some scar tissue. In my practice, I would try a little injection of a steroid (Kenalog) here. If that takes it down, great. If not, you may need to discuss a small revision procedure around 12 months. The supratip area does look full in your pictures. A common area for residual fullness after an endonasal approach is in the supratip area as this is the most dependent portion of the nose. However, it is also the most common area for the bridge to be left too high in an endonasal approach. It normally takes up to one year for swelling to resolve from the nose. An accurate assessment cannot be made before that time and I would followup with your surgeon to get their guidance on your recovery.

Hi and thanks for your question, final result from a rhinoplasty can be expected after 1 year of surgery, if the deformity remains I recommend a second evaluation to decide on further corrective surgery of the tip.

Hello, From your photos it appears that you may may some excess soft tissue or cartilage in the supratip area, so a polybeak is possible, although, we generally will tell patients that it take a full year for swelling to completely resolve, an in person eval at 1 year would be the time to decide on further intervention.  Hope this helps!

At 6 months post op there is no doubt you have nasal swelling.  It can take a year to see the final result.  Have patience and follow up with your surgeon so he can monitor your progress.
