While I always encourage my patients to not spend all their time in bed following surgery (leisurely activity minimizes the risk of deep clots in your leg veins and helps with swelling), I would not recommend doing any rigorous physical activity until about 3-4 weeks after surgery. This can even be longer depending on the extent of surgery and how you're recovering.
Light Exercise such as short walks can begin 2 weeks after liposuctionLight to Medium Exercise such as a one mile walk, 20-30 minutes medium intensity on a treadmil or cross trainer, light resistance exercise should wait until 3 weeks after surgery. Occasionally I will let someone begin earlier if they are recovering quickly so it is Okay to ask your doctor if you feel like you are ready.Always listen to your body and stop exercise if you have unusual pain, swelling or fatigue that surprises you or you have not felt beforeWear a light compression garment during exercise until 6 weeks after surgeryFinally, don't expect to start where you left off. Give your body time to adjust over 2 - 3 weeks and gradually work your way up to your previous level of intensity
I would suggest waiting at least 1-2 weeks, depending on how you are feeling, to re-start your exercise routine.
I tell my patients that after liposuction they can usually go back to activities with in a week or so. This is not the same for more invasive procedures.
Hi Kendra,Thanks for your question. Every surgeon has their own preference and it does matter what body parts were treated, but as a general rule, light cardio exercise like walking on the treadmill can begin 2 weeks postop. More rigorous exercise and weight lifting can usually start at 4 weeks postop provided the treated area is healing well. I would recommend discussing these questions with your plastic surgeon to get a more accurate idea of your particular needs. Good luck!
Yes, liposuction or my gentle wave body contouring, can be done on virtually any part of the face and body where fat exists. It also can be done in one operation, the major limitation though is that the maximum recommended/allowed is 10 pounds or 5000cc. Safety must also be the main...
Generally you should avoid strenuous exercise for 6 weeks post operatively. Because you are at 7 weeks, Zumba should be fine at this point. I would caution you to begin at a lower intensity level and gradually work back into your usual regimen. You may certainly wear your compression garment...
