How long does it take to get the final result of a submentoplasty? (Photo)

Question

I had a lower face lift, neck lift and submentaplasty just shy of six months ago. I went to a very reputable, double-board-certified surgeon in Manhattan. I love the results except for the bands that still hang down from my neck. My PS says the muscle is still contracting, and that it will be nine months before I see more improvement (the bands will be much less noticeable). Does nine months sound "normal" for a final result? I would appreciate any feedback.

One year after surgery is considered to be time needed for complete healing; result that you have at that time is not going to change in most patients. Muscle bands, unfortunately, remain a problem even after well executed neck/face lift, in particular in skinny necks that show every, even minimal lumps and bands. Treatment with Botox or similar agents may help but surgical correction may be necessary in some patients. Stay in good relation with your surgeon and continue discussion about possible options. It may take up to 18 months for the skin to tighten over the muscle. When I do see post op bands, I usually inject them with a Neurotoxin (Dysport is my preferred one). The reason is that I want them to be "relaxed" so the skin retract over them. Unfortunately there are cases where a surgeon has to go back at 1 1/2 to re-tighten those bands. In fact my Surgical consent for Neck lift does have a paragraph addressing the issue of recurrence of bands.  Hope it helps.
