How long could it take before I am able to lift my 6 month old baby after breast reduction?

Hello Doctors. Thank you in advance for your responses ! I know this question is a bit silly... I am getting a breast reduction in 2 weeks, im afraid I wont be able to lift my baby boy. He is 6 months 20 lbs . Will I be able to lift him within a week?

This certainly isn't a silly question. When you do start lifting your baby boy, you will want to do so carefully. A week may be fine, but 2 weeks may be needed. Check with your surgeon. Best of luck.

Thank you for your question.  Each individual patient is different when it comes to recovery times.  I would say you can begin lifting him again after about 3-4 weeks.

Twenty pounds isn't a small baby! You should refrain from lifting him for at least three weeks after surgery. There are many adaptive techniques you can use instead. Discuss with your plastic surgeon and follow his or her recommendation.

I have patients take it easy for 3-4weeks, and then they can start lift light weights of 10-20 lbs and to start light aerobics. Best to review with your surgeon first.

Thank you for the question (not silly at all) and congratulations on your decision to proceed with breast reduction surgery; this operation tends to be one of the most patient pleasing operations we perform.
  Your plastic surgeon will always be your best resource when it comes to specific postoperative care instructions. Having said that, in my practice, I would ask that you avoid lifting a 20 pound child for at least the first 2 to 3 weeks after surgery.  The child can be put in your lap soon after surgery.  Best to recruit as much help as possible...
