Is it advisable to shift from ND yag to Soprano Laser after 6 sessions of hair removal on legs? I'm light skinned Indian female

The technician feels that large clumps of black but finer- than- before hair will be removed better with Soprano. I've completed 6 sessions and 1 maintenance in a years time. The growth has reduced in density but there are still noticeable patches of dark hair that grow in length when not razored. Is this expected?

This is tough to answer without an in-person evaluation. Diode or long pulsed yags are the safest, most effective lasers. Thanks for your question and as Dr. Emer points out, you need to have a consultation with an expert to determine your next move.  We always recommend that you have these consultations with board certified dermatologists or plastic surgeons to learn the best treatment options.  Things to consider are your skin type and the density and colors of the hair. Switching wavelengths may be a good move for you – and an expert can guide you appropriately here.

It is often necessary to change the wavelengths after a number of laser hair removal sessions.  The hair itself changes during the course of the treatments.  It should become finer, lighter and less dense over time.  The NdYag laser hair removal system works well, especially for very dark dense black thick hair that is deeper in the dermis.  Now that the hairs are finer, they grow different in the dermis. The 810nm diode laser such as the Soprano can efficiently treat those hairs at this level.  In our clinic, we utilize the NdYag often, then switch to either our Alexandrite laser or another device that has a similar wavelength to the Soprano.
