Thank you for your question. You pose a very interesting question, in that we are not sure if deep bulk heating devices like RF treatments decrease fat in the subcutaneous skin of the face, but it seems like it is likely as this technique is used in other parts of the body for body contouring (though not necessarily very effectively), i.e.: Venus, TruSculpt, Vanquish, etc. As opposed to Coolsculpting which uses freezing of the fat and Sculpsure which uses a laser that is specifically tuned for fat that seem to be more effective at destroying fat. So you may ask then do lasers cause loss of fat, and it is not thought so since each laser wavelength targets a specific chromophore, lasers for hair, brown spots, red spots, etc. are not of the same variety that would target fat. Going back to Clear and Brilliant, since this is a laser it is unlikely to affect fat. Additionally, C+B is thought to only penetrate 200-300um (Original) and about 170um (Permea), we know from treatments like Ulthera and other ultrasound studies that the fat in the majority of the face lies much deeper than that. All in all, I do not know of any studies showing C+B to cause fat loss and I would be comfortable having the treatment done on myself, which I do have done regularly. Regards, Dr. Matt Elias
