I am 5 days post op from a BBL why can’t I take an aspirin for this severe migraine ?

Best to ask your PS for his/her recommendation for relief of your severe migraine.  Aspirin, Motrin, Aleve, Advil, Ibuprofen, and Pepto-Bismol all contain agents that will thin your blood and cause surgical complications.   I issue the same precautions following surgery and recommend Tylenol instead.  Kenneth Hughes, MD, ABPS Board Certified Plastic Surgeon

every plastic surgeon has his own postoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. I would suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon.

Keshane,Every Plastic Surgeon has their own instructions regarding pain management and medications.  NSAIDS such as; Motrin, Advil, Aleve, Celebrex, Naprosyn etc can cause some blood thinning and bleeding, but are much less potent than aspirin which can affect blood clotting for 5 days before surgery.  I allow my patients to use NSAIDs 2 days after surgery, but no aspirin for at least 7 days post op to avoid delayed bleeding. Check with your surgeon before taking any aspirin products.Dr T

The chance of bleeding after a BBL is close to zero.still it would be inappropriate for any of us to change your post operative plan.Talk to your PS.  If these head aches are new then please get them checked out with your primary care doc.Best,Mats Hagstrom, MD
