The result of smoking (cigarettes, pot/weed/marijuana...) is that the blood cannot carry oxygen as well to the tissues (skin), therefore limiting the ability of the skin to heal. If the skin cannot heal the incisions will fall apart, leading to healing problems that can last months. If large areas of skin are raised up in order to perform the procedure (facelift, tummy tuck, breast lift or reduction to name a few) there may be large areas of dead skin post-op if one smokes leading up to surgery. It is best to quit at least 2 weeks prior to surgery, preferably four. Best of luck to you.
Thank you for sharing your question. Despite the absence of nicotine in weed it still can affect your wound healing ability by limiting your blood's ability to carry oxygen to your tissues, and can impact your anesthesia treatment. I would avoid smoking weed for at least four weeks before and after surgery. Hope this helps.
A successful abdominoplasty requires the most excellent blood flow available. We do not know the effects of marijuana. Until we understand more, I recommend stop smoking six weeks prior to surgery. Perhaps other surgeries, like breast augmentation, would be very much more forgiving toward smoking pot because blood flow is not as much a concern.
You need to be careful with smoking before surgery, you can develop breathing problems or even skin or scar necrosis because of the lack of oxygen. It is better and safer to stop smoking 2 months before the procedure.
Smoking anything is not good for you and not good for wound healing. I have not seen specific studies on marijuana but smoking cigarettes can increase the complication rate by more than 50%!
The tummy tuck procedure requires excellent blood flow to the abdominal skin to prevent skin loss and scarring. Because of the uncertainty of chemicals in marijuana I would advise that she abstain from smoking marijuana or any other substance for 5-6 weeks before a tummy tuck procedure. Be sure to discuss this with your surgeon.
Congratulations. The fact that you still cannot stand fully straight at 12 days is pretty close to the norm and it means that your surgeon did a good job. It will get better over the next 7-10 days. Don't push the stretching. Too much pain measns you may be doing damage. And there are no...
Hi, Dared. What a tough problem! You certainly appear to have a surprising amount of indurated swelling almost one year out from a tummy tuck. It would be helpful to know if your skin was normal just prior to the tummy tuck, or whether you had persistent indurated swelling following your li...
