Prior to my extractions I didn't have a recessed jaw. I met an oral surgeon and they said to get a sliding genioplasty 5-7mm. They said I can't do jaw surgery now because my ortho made my teeth fit properly despite my jaw being recessed. They said I should have had jaw surgery done but ortho just pulled back bite with elastics to compensate. I feel genio won't do enough. Is it possible to put back on braces and then get elastics to pull back my bite out of alignment and then get jaw surgery?
Answer: Chin implant candidate The side profile photographs demonstrate a weak and recessive chin profile for which a chin implant can improve. Chin implants are manufactured in a large variety of shapes and sizes, which is best determined at the time of the consultation and examination. Chin implants are placed through a small submental incision under local anesthesia as an outpatient procedure. For many examples and more information, please see the link and the video below

Answer: Sliding Genioplasty A sliding genioplasty or a large chin implant would be the appropriate approach now. While you could undergo lower jaw advancement surgery you are going to have to completely undo your orthodontic alignment which is now very difficult due to the prior teeth extractions.

Answer: Profile and previous orthodontics it is not uncommon, unfortunately to have your situation. There are a couple of ways to go; but the easiest and very successful is to augment the entire jawline including further augmentation of the chin (NOT just the chin only). We have had to do this many times when teeth have been removed without consideration for the 'face' appearance. A Maxillofacial Cosmetic surgeon is the place to start.
