Will facial volume restore after Hyaluronidase? Do I have to keep getting more filler for the rest of my life to restore volume?

So in May 15, 2018 I received one syringe of restyalne in my tear through. (Half under each eye). I hated it, it was too superficial and ending up weighing my face down. I went back and got a small dose of Hyaluronidase to dissolve. It didn't fully dissolve and she placed a little more. Now its September, about 2 months from my second dissolving injection and my face did not fully recover. The area of my face with the Hyaluronidase looks sunken in and I have more loose bags. Will my volume restore?

Longterm filler problems include migration, edema, and nodularity. Filler migration and permanence is a very common problem because there are many different types of HA fillers on the market and each is specified for a specific part of the face. Use of highly cohesive fillers on thin skin may cause swelling and nodularity. If patients have filler migration or nodules, we recommend a combination approach of filler reversal with enzymes Hylenex and Hyaluronidase in different strengths to dissolve the filler. We may also need to add Kenalog to the mix in order to reduce fibrous tissue. If the filler does not dissolve, it either means the filler is not HA material or we need more enzyme. The HA reversal can be combined with other lasers and skin treatments at the same time, and it usually (usually) does not affect adjacent tissue.

While it may take a few weeks to settle, hyaluronidase should not cause volume loss. I recommend speaking to your injector about your concerns. Hope this helps.

Yes, your volume will restore after hyaluronidase. If you remain concerned, I recommend following up with a cosmetic dermatologist. Tear troughs require a combination approach of fillers, lasers and microneedling/prp to get the most improvement. Best, Dr. Emer
