I am having a lipoma removed from the back of my thigh, 2 inches above the knee. It's 5cm horizontal and 2cm vertical in shape. Which is the best direction for surgical incision to reduce scarring? I've been told horizontally as it follows Langer lines, but was also told vertically is better as when you elongate leg the skin will pull on scar and stretch it, so a horizontal incision would get wider from this. Which is right?

Answer: Recommend having incision done horizontally for the best scaring results.
You may have irritation of the scar and this needs to be evaluated by the surgeon to see if there is a retained suture or ongoing inflammation. In the interim, place Scar Serum.
If ice helps, use it.Typically ice is used in the first couple of days after surgery to reduce bruising and provide pain relief.I recommend low dose ibuprofen and swell-x pt to reduce pain and inflammation.Best
