Why has my deviated septum returned after rhinoplasty? (Photos)

Rhinoplasty done for deviated septum & cosmetic. Surgeon said he can fix the D.S. Also tucked cartlidge in my nose instead of removing it. I think the D.S returned 2 years after surgery, Please see pics, from what I understood it is the claudal of the septum sticking out my nostril.Did not have a trauma in that time, I just sometimes pluck nose hairs that were visible 1-2 years after. What happened for the D.S to return. Is getting a revision risky, I am not happy, & havebreathing issues.

lara8989,It is difficult to pinpoint the reason why the deviated septum has returned.  The septum is a structure that separates the left and right nostril and if deviated can cause your breathing difficulty.  The benefit of breathing far outweighs the risk of having a revision procedure.  Best of luck!

A Rhinoplasty is performed for cosmetic purposes to change the shape of the nose.  A septoplasty is performed for a deviated diesel septum. Both procedures are separate, however they both can be performed at the same time when necessary. A septoplasty is usually performed for medical necessity to improve airflow dynamics in the back of the nose. Deviation of the septum can recur. The cartilage has "memory" and wants to bend back to what it looked like before correction.

Sometimes the natural healing process and inherent memory of the nasal septal cartilage result in the need for minor revision. Your septum may still be deviated as you suggest. Your surgeon appears to understand all that is happening in your case and has offered you a reasonable plan for correction/ revision. The risks are small compared to the benefit of improved breathing and appearance in my view. Though I don't recommend plucking nose hair or manipulation of the nose after surgery, it is unlikely that this behavior caused the issue. Best wishes.
