Crooked cast = crooked nose? (Photo)

Question

I am 5 days post-op from my rhinoplasty to correct my crooked nose. The cast has been crooked since I woke up after the surgery. I know I have a lot of swelling as well, but I have seen others who corrected crooked noses as well and their casts don't appear this way. Is my nose still going to be crooked? Or is this just temporary? This is my second nose job in the last 3 years to correct my crooked nose and I'd hate for nothing to change...again!

Thank you very much for enquire.It's too early to make value judgments with five days after a rhinoplasty.Swelling after a rhinoplasty depends of the surgery complexity.In this regard, the nasal swelling Post-op It can last from two weeks to two months.To reduce this swelling, I recommend you perform delicates daily lymphatic drainage massage therapy over the face (around the nose) avoid sun exposure, and take pain/inflammation pills, as your surgeon prescribe you.Kind regards, Dr. Emmanuel Mallol Cotes.-

In general it is impossible to judge the appearance of your nose while your dressing is on. We have had patients ask the same question if a dressing's tape may look asymmetrical. Sit tight for a couple of days till your dressing comes off, and feel free to keep us posted. Would not worry about the appearance of your splint right now.Hope this helps you.Dr Joseph

There are many factors that go into how the splint might look. Swelling is a big contributor, as well as the dressing placed underneath.  You'll have to wait and see when the splint comes off. Good luck.

Hi, thanks for your question and photos. A crooked splint is multi factorial and doesn't guarantee that the nose is crooked underneath. Occasionally, a perfectly straight nose is not achievable after severe trauma and often requires revisional procedures to obtain the final result. Speak with your Specialist Plastic Surgeon and they will help guide you through this process. You'll be in safe hands.

A crooked cast doesn't necessarily predict a crooked nose underneath.  The combination of tape and swelling underneath the cast can make it appear asymmetric, but that doesn't mean your nose would also be asymmetric.Wait until the cast comes off and give yourself several weeks to heal.  The healing process is very important and you will see your nose change and improve during the process.  Only after your nose has healed will you and your surgeon be able to see what the true outcome will be.
