In 2008 I consulted with a top NYC plastic surgeon for a deep plane face/neck lift with upper bleph (eyelid skin only). The fee was $12,500 (+$2,500 anesthesia/in house OR facility). In 2015, I was quoted $22,500+$3750. Last month, I thought the 2015 estimate would be honored. I was told it's a straightforward procedure. At 65, I have practiced non invasive methods for 20+ yrs (some laxity- no hanging skin or wrinkles). It has now increased to $30K+$3750. Are doctors simply chasing prices?

Answer: Average length of time a surgeon should honor a facelift price quote? This is a tough question to answer as there is no right or wrong answers. I think in general surgeons honor quotes for about a year. There are many factors that go into pricing. This includes the anesthesia fees and also the facility fee. Usually the surgeon has no control over this fee and unfortunately, they always seem to be rising. Surgeons choose the fees they charge for the procedure and pre-and postoperative care. Often this can be a supply and demand response. If your surgeon is highly sought after, he or she may be able to charge higher fees. A brand-new surgeon can charge a high fee also, find out that he or she is not having patients sign up for surgery and subsequently lower fees. I think most plastic surgeons, along with professionals in all fields, would agree that five years is too long a time to honor a particular quote.

Answer: 1 year from Quote day (if signed) In our office, when we give quotes they are ideally honored for 1 year. We however explain this to our patients upfront so they understand our office protocol. Our quotes are only honored when signed.
