3 months post-op BBL will I lose more volume?

Thank you for your question. With Brazilian butt lift we transfer fat from one area of the body to the other. These fat cells are transferred in microinjections throughout multiple planes in the buttock tissue so that they can gain new blood supply and live in their new home, providing increased volume and shape to the buttocks. After surgery there is a predictable swelling process that mostly resolves over two months, when the final result really settles in.  Around 70% of fat that is grafted is typically expected to survive long term. We also put a little extra to account for loss of fat post operative, which is reabsorbed gradually by the body.

I tell patients that they can expect resorption or graft loss on the order of 30-50% (at most; prepare for the worst and hope for significantly better). Additionally some harvest volume is lost in processing the fat graft prior to transfer. Thus I generally recommend that patients seeking even the most minimal volume increase have adequate reserves for grafting of 500 cc per cheek (at minimum).  This means that harvest will usually exceed 1 liter (assuming for processing loss).
Reaching this point of stability will vary from one patient to the next. 3-6 is the point at which patients often begin to take note of changes as swelling subsides and graft take stabilizes.

After a BBL, only about 70% of the transferred fat cells will survive, so it is normal to see a minor reduction in your buttocks. If you have any concerns, I suggest you to follow up close with your plastic surgeon.

Thank you for your question,Typically at three months you still may be developing a blood supply but won’t be in the process of loosing much more fat afterwards.However , there are ways to increase the likelihood of losing fat. One of the ways is staying away from second hand smoke, staying off of the butt and no fat burning exercises. Still speak to your physcian. 

We know that ~30-50% of the fat volume injected is lost over the first 3-6 months after surgery. Some patients have better take than others and we do not know really why this is. I would give it the full 6 months before undergoing another procedure.
