A scar can take up to a full year to mature. During this time, your scar should lighten and thin out beyond the scar you currently have. I recommend using a silicone based scar treatment in order to help this process occur faster. I suggest for my patients to use Biocorneum post-operatively. If the appearance of the scar does not improve over time, you have options to revise your scar including steroid injections, laser treatment, and scar revision procedures.

Scar tethering and contour problems may persist and thus require early treatment to improve results. I would begin with laser and scar modulation per our HIDEF protocol.

I understand you are concerned with the appearance of your scars. As your scars heal, it should flatten out and lighten. Loss of pigmentation or hyperpigmentation may also be experienced but will resolve over time. Always follow your surgeon's post operative care instructions when it comes to scar management to avoid any complications like infection and for faster healing and recovery.
