Unfortunately, no surprise about the lack of success with fractional lasers. I have been cautioning my readers for years to exercise a great deal of "buyer beware" when considering these expensive "bells and whistles" that generally lack the hard science to back up the heavy marketing hype to promote them. Superficial peels are fine for helping with very surface color and texture problems, but had little chance of success with deeper scars. Sorry. These scars are caused by cystic acne. Scars can be temporary or permanent and there are many aspects of scars that can be improved. During your consultation, we look to determine the textural changes, hypopigmentation, hyperpigmentation, scar color, scar contour depth, scar atrophy, inflammation, and scar thickness. Once complete, a HIDEF protocol is established that includes pigmentation protocols to either lighten or darken scar tone, re-texturization of scars, inflammatory mediators, lasers, and contour correction. All of these require time and multi-plane correction.
