Persistent red nose after mechanical trauma — broken capillaries/telangiectasia? Treatment options? (Photos)
My nose has been persistently red for about 2 years. Before this, my nose was never red. It started shortly after I repeatedly used a blackhead extraction tool for a couple of weeks. Soon after, my nose became red and inflamed. There was no pain, but the redness never went away. I’ve seen 3 dermatologists. #1 diagnosed rosacea and gave me a topical steroid, but after 2–3 weeks it burned and made my nose even redder. #2 diagnosed rosacea + broken capillaries and prescribed doxycycline. It helped some acne but not the redness. #3 diagnosed broken capillaries + dermatitis and prescribed doxycycline/clindamycin for bacterial dermatitis and ketoconazole for seborrheic dermatitis. She also recommended skincare and performed laser treatment for the broken capillaries. The laser temporarily reduced the redness, but it returned. My nose is always red at baseline and sometimes becomes extremely bright red during flares. My dermatologist recently didn’t want to do another laser because my nose was already red. Since this all started after mechanical trauma, could the injury have caused vascular damage/telangiectasia, with rosacea or dermatitis contributing to the flares? Has anyone experienced similar redness after trauma? What treatment actually helped? Would BBL/IPL BE APPROPRIATE??
