Downturned upper lip - What should I do? (photo)

Question

As you can see from my photos, it looks like my upper lip holds a lot of tension and is downturned. I did a lip flip twice and it didn't help. What should I do?

A downturned upper lip can sometimes be attributed to muscle tension or the natural shape of the lips. Since you have tried a lip flip with limited success, there are a few other options you might consider:

Dermal Fillers: Lip fillers can help add volume and structure to the upper lip, potentially lifting the corners and enhancing the overall shape. A skilled injector can help create a more balanced appearance.

Botox for Muscle Relaxation: While a lip flip involves Botox, it may be worth revisiting with a focus on specific muscle groups around the mouth. A different injection technique or dosage might yield better results.

Lip Lift Surgery: If non-surgical options are not effective, a surgical lip lift could be considered. This procedure involves removing a small strip of skin under the nose to elevate the upper lip, which can help improve the appearance of downturned lips.

Consultation with a Specialist: It would be beneficial to consult with a board-certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon who specializes in facial aesthetics. They can provide a thorough evaluation and recommend a personalized treatment plan.

A lip lift does 4 things: shortens the distance between the nose and upper lip, increases the mucosa of the upper lip, increases the incisor show and pulls up the corners. In your case, centrally your lip looks quite good. You would benefit from lateral excision to pull up the corners. The procedure takes 1 hour to perform under local anesthesia and costs $4,000.

Consider a nonsurgical lip lift that consists of a) employing a couple of microdroplets of Botox placed appropriately along the vermilion border of the upper lip along with b)  the use of a low vfscosity, cohesive, malleable HA filler used to define the upper lip vermilion border. 
You would be wise to consult with an experienced, board certified cosmetic dermatologist injection expert. Hope this helps and best of luck.
