Will my skin sag or stretch after Juvederm dissolves? 1 cc placed in nasolabial folds and marionette lines.

Question

I’m a 30 yr old female. I got 1 cc of Juvederm filler injected into my nasolabial folds/marionette lines. I’m normal weight. This was my first time getting filler. I’m concerned that when the filler dissolves, my skin will sag and be stretched out. I don’t plan on getting filler again so I’m worried it will look stretched out when it dissolves. I read online that this can occur, but only with excessive amounts of filler. I still wanted to be sure my skin won’t sag or be stretched.

The injection of only 1 cc of a simple HA filler, like Juvederm (or Restylane, for that matter), especially in such a young person, is unlikely to result in sagging or stretching. So, no worries there. What does concern me, however, is that it sounds from the question that only an inappropriately small amount of an inappropriately light-weight filler was used, too small and not robust enough to get the job done or to have any lasting results. What's more, I would suspect that the filler was injected directly into the smile lines and the marionette lines (an approach seldom chosen by experienced injectors for over the past fifteen years already), rather than addressing the volume deficit in the cheeks and posterior jawline area that are actually responsible for the development of the smile and marionette lines). You would be wise going forward to make sure to consult an experienced, board certified cosmetic dermatologist.

1 cc is a very small amount, it looks like a lot in the syringe but its very small. Unlikely that your skin will stretch, specially since you are very young. :)

Hi there! In young, healthy patients, it’s very unlikely for filler to stretch the skin and cause laxity issues &mdash; especially when such a small amount of filler is used. Stretching the skin is more likely to happen if the skin is very thin or excessive amounts of filler are used. Generally speaking, as filler slowly metabolizes, the treatment area will return to its previous appearance. At that time, most people return to their provider for additional filler injections to maintain their result. Hope this helps!

As your body metabolizes the Juvederm your look will gradually return to how it looked prior to treatment.  There will not be additional sagging related to the treatment.  Typically when patients begin to see the effects of the product fade they return to the office for a touch up to maintain the results.

Hello there! That’s a good question. For a first time patient injecting a small amount of filler, who is otherwise healthy and young, I think the risks of causing any skin sagging or deformity after the filler dissolves is very low. I have not experienced this phenomenon in any of my patients. With overall good health and skin care, I think you have very little to worry about. Hopefully this helps!
