Is it possible to have infraorbital rim implants after facial fat grafting?

The region under my eyes is quite sunken, so I did a fat transfer there. However, the volume still isn’t enough. Would I be able to receive infraorbital rim implants as well to restore volume? Is that ever a good idea?

Thank you for your question. In general, as we age we lose both fat volume and bone volume. For treating the region you're describing, there are a few options including filler, fat transfer, and implants. There are pros and cons to each of these options. For example, fillers are easy to place, but aren't permanent. Fat requires harvesting, and the amount that survives is variable. Implants are permanent but require surgery for placement, and like any implant there is risk for infection. I hope this information is helpful, and all the best.

The answer is yes, infraorbital implants can be placed after fat grafts. Very likely, lower blepharoplasty should be done in the same time; incision inside the eyelid (transconjunctival) should be used for both procedures. Orbital rim implant is a choice when there is significant malar atrophy. However, if the problem is not very deep, we prefer less aggressive treatments such as fat injections (sometimes more than one session) of dermal fillers.
