Hemoglobin fluctuates - what could I do to increase it?

My breast augmentation is coming up in a week.I did my labs and my hemoglobin is 11.0 but when I got tested again it was 10.8.I found out I was pre diabetic and my iron is high.Do you think I can still do the surgery?My body is not absorbing the iron to create blood cells.What could I do to increase my hemo?

I encourage you to discuss this situation with your surgeon and primary care physician.  More information is needed to determine the underlying cause of the fluctuation.  Your surgeon will determine if it is appropriate to proceed with surgery as planned.

For most women, they may run a little low until they start menopause and stop menstruating. If you iron is high, do not take more iron.  Your counts are fine for surgery.

Fortunately, Breast Augmentation is a very low blood loss procedure.    There is nothing you can do to improve this situation in less than a week.   You should discuss this with your surgeon and PCP as to whether they think you should proceed or postpone.
