I had silicone 1000 on my nose September 2021. I noticed redness about three weeks after the procedure. I notified the doctor and he reassured me it will go away within 6 to 9 months if not he will inject the area with steroids which he did. However, the redness is still there, my question is will the redness ever go away or should I go back for more steroids? I hope this is not something permanent.
Answer: Chronic Redness After Silikon 1000 May Be Permanent Without Surgical Intervention Hello Eclectic543777, and thank you for your question regarding chronic redness following Silikon 1000 injections in your nose. The redness you’re experiencing is likely due to an inflammatory response or vascular changes caused by the presence of silicone in the tissue. Silikon 1000 is a permanent filler; its interaction with your body can sometimes trigger ongoing inflammation. This inflammation can cause chronic redness, and while steroid injections may temporarily reduce the symptoms by addressing scar tissue or swelling, they do not eliminate the silicone itself, which remains embedded in your tissue indefinitely. Unfortunately, redness from silicone injections does not always resolve on its own. The longer the silicone remains in place, the more likely it is to provoke further inflammatory or immune reactions. Additionally, repeated steroid injections can thin the skin and lead to other complications, such as pigmentation changes or tissue atrophy, particularly in delicate areas like the nose. If the redness persists or worsens despite steroid treatment, the only definitive solution is to consider surgical removal of the silicone and associated tissue. This is a complex procedure, as silicone often integrates with surrounding tissues, making removal challenging. However, an experienced surgeon specializing in permanent filler complications can assess your specific case and determine the best approach. I strongly recommend consulting with a board-certified plastic surgeon or dermatologist with expertise in silicone-related issues. In the meantime, avoid additional treatments or injections without proper evaluation, as they could exacerbate the problem. Chronic redness following silicone injections can be a long-term issue, but with appropriate care, there may be solutions to improve your condition. I hope this helps clarify your options and provides some guidance on how to proceed. Please prioritize your health and consult with an experienced board certified plastic surgeon for further evaluation. Sincerely, J. Timothy Katzen, MD

Answer: Permanent Fillers Can Translate Into Permanent Problems I ceased using permanent fillers, like silicone, many, many years ago when the first natural collagen fillers were FDA approved and entered the market. Permanent fillers, regardless if silicone, alcamid, or Bellafill, carry the risk for the development of difficult-to-treat adverse reactions , either immediately or five, ten or even twenty or more years later. And since there is no natural enzyme to dissolve these permanent fillers, these complications can be very difficult to treat. Intralesional steroids may be helpful, but other anti-inflammatory agents, either alone or in combination with the intralesional steroids, may be needed, as well, depending upon response. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Answer: Chronic redness after Silikon 1000. Will this ever go away? In our experience, nasal redness after Silikon-1000 injections is uncommon, but we have seen this a handful of times over 20 years and redness goes away with or without treatment. If you had no benefit from dilute steroid injections, IPL or laser treatments may be considered, depending on your skin type. Please consider visiting your surgeon for specific advice. Hope this helps. Dr Joseph

Answer: In some people there can be some redness in the area of injection. In some people there can be some redness in the area of injection. Generally, it is temporary. I have rarely seen it persist. Likely it is just part of the skin's reaction, although not a serious reaction to the presence of the filler. Some people have had some relief when a steroid cream is placed onto the skin and absorbed to calm it down. Most of the time it goes away. In those cases in which it persists and there is no evidence of infection such as pain, swelling, soreness, and increasing redness, there may be help from some laser treatments by a qualified specialist. However, that should be reserved only after months have elapsed and the nose is given a chance to "settle down" after the silicone injection. Note that once that redness appears, I would not recommend putting anymore silicone into that area less the redness stay even longer.
