Should I have my areola reduction and asymmetry correction done with my implants or should I consider two procedures? (photos)

Either approach sounds reasonable.

All of these procedures should be able to safely accomplished in a single surgery. That being said, you might consider augmentation alone in an attempt to spare yourself the added scar burden.

Based on your photos, your asymmetry is very mild (remember "sisters not twins"). Augmentation can have one of two effects: minimizing the differences or accentuating the differences (sometimes small things seem bigger when view on a larger canvas). If six months post op you are content, you will have avoided an unnecessary mastopexy. Alternatively, a delayed mastopexy will allow you to account for post augmentation areolar stretch.

As always, discuss your concerns with a board certified plastic surgeon (ABPS).

Either approach is certainly reasonable, but the asymmetry may be improved with augmentation. No one is completely symmetric. You may be quite happy with the result and finding out you do not need the extra scarring. With augmentation, your areole them may spread a bit and it makes sense to wait 6 months or a year after your augment to determine just how much you want to reduce the areolae.

Hello, I would advise that you get implants placed first. You may decide once you have more volume and projection, that your minor asymmetries and areolar size don't bother you as they did prior to having breast implants. Your current asymmetries would be challenging to correct, as they are very minor. Your areolar size is not outside of the normal range either. Good luck on your breast aesthetic journey.

Having both a breast augmentation and an areola reduction with a Benelli technique ( means having an incision around the areola). This area of the breast is where the implant will have the most projection, creating tension on that incision. It is very common for hypertrophic scaring to occur due to the pressure that the implant makes against the front of the breast, even with a moderate profile implant. This can spread your scar. Also, there is always a risk that once the implant settles, the position of the areolas is not ideal, which, is why, in my opinion, the best option is to do the breast augmentation first and after a few months of recovery, see how the implants have settled and then, have a second procedure to reduce the areolas to try and create as much symmetry as possible just in case you really need it. Like in all patients, there is always an asymmetry from one side of the body to the other. In your case, you have a pronounced asymmetry in the position of the base of your breasts. The base of your left breast is positioned higher than the base of the breast on the right side. Because of this, simply doing breast augmentation in the hopes of achieving symmetry will not be possible. You will still have one breast appearing higher than the other because the areola needs to be repositioned at the point of the greatest projection of the breast. The final decision on the ideal implant size depends on the analysis of all your body measurements, to create balance and contour. It would be ideal to know the relationship between the diameter of your hip and your waist to compare it with the diameter of your chest and decide the final volume and projection of your implants!

Hi. Good question. As you have already found out you will definitely get different opinions from different people. I think you really need to balance all of the factors that go into this. What I mean is this. You have breast asymmetry as we very commonly see, and in theory you could do a lift on the right side to make that nipple match in position closer to the left. However, to do that you will then have additional scars on that right side that you will not have on the left and those scars then contribute to a different asymmetry. In my opinion, that would not be an overall net benefit. You do not have drooping on your left side (your nipple is above your inframammary fold) and really from what it looks like on the right side you do not have true drooping of the breast but a little bit of looseness of the lower portion of the breast. Based just on your pictures, I would recommend breast augmentation, likely dual plane and accept that your asymmetry is what it is - which is not a bad thing. But ultimately all of this also depends on an in-person evaluation and a frank thorough discussion with you as a patient to come up with a mutually agreeable reasonable surgical plan.
I would recommend consulting with board-certified plastic surgeons with good experience with breast augmentation.

From the photo, your right breast exhibits ptosis (lower level) compared to your left breast. This condition is known as ptosis and hypoplastic breast. We can correct both conditions in one surgery using mastopexy (breast lift) with a peri-areolar incision and implant augmentation, with the implant size likely around 250 cc. During the mastopexy procedure, we can also perform an areolar reduction if desired (normal diameter is around 3.4 cm - 4.0 cm)
