What laser is best at removing red and orange ink?

Question

I have a small all color tattoo on my thigh (red/orange/yellow daisy with green leaves) which I treated with 3 picosure sessions. I am seeing clearing of the green, but nothing really on the red. The technician tells me that the pico clears red/orange but it takes longer. I have read that pico does not work on red. What is the truth? Should I consider another laser for the red and orange? If so, which one? Thank you!!!!

The most reliable laser wavelength for red/orange colors is 532 nm.  I would recommend either a traditional Q-switched 532 nm laser or a picosecond 532 nm laser.  Caution is required with 532 nm in darker or tanned skin because it is well absorbed by pigment in the skin and could have a higher risk of skin injury.

Treating a tattoo effectively like yours will require more than just the current Picosure laser which is not optimal for red/orange tattoos. Treating these colors with a 532 Picosecond device like the Enlighten device would be the best approach to treat these colors efficiently. In my office I use three different devices for laser tattoo removal in order to treat each color in the most effective and efficient way. I would recommend seeing a dermatologist with advanced training in laser procedures for optimal results.

Thank you for your question. I have the Picosure which is a 755 wavelength as well as the PiQo4 which is a 4 wavelength Pico laser for a total of 5 Pico wavelengths. The PiQo4 laser has the 532 wavelength which is ideal for reds. That is my personal and professional preference. I have been practicing tattoo removal for 20 years.Dr. Daniel Ritacca
