hello,BMI screening before any cosmetic surgery procedure is a must, and it is great that you are thinking about this! If a patient is healthy with no health concerns, I require all BBL and Tummy Tuck patients to have a BMI under 35. On the other hand, if you have diabetes or some other medical condition, I would ask you to reduce the BMI to something closer to 32 or below. Based on other surgeon's answers, my BMI35 cut off is indeed higher. This may be in part due to the fact that I use IV anesthesia instead of General Anesthesia. With IV anesthesia, most all of the pulmonary risks are eliminated. With IV anesthesia you are breathing on your own, as opposed to a machine breathing for you with General Anesthesia. Generally speaking, higher BMI patients are at increased risk for pulmonary problems, and General Anesthesia is more tied to pulmonary complications. I have performed hundreds of BBL's over 15 years and this BMI criteria it has served me well.To learn more about BMI screening and the requirements that I require for both BBL and Tummy Tuck patients, please read the link below.Cheers,Ricardo L Rodriguez MD
Losing a bit of weight can reduce the risk for complications with surgery, but BMI is just one measure of your fitness for surgery.Kenneth Hughes, MDLos Angeles, CA
I appreciate your question. For health and safety reasons, best to be at a BMI less than 30 or within 10 pounds of your goal weight and stable at that weight for 6 months prior to surgery for optimal results. The best way to assess and give true advice would be an in-person exam. Please see a board-certified plastic surgeon that specializes in aesthetic and restorative plastic surgery. Best of luck! Hi and thanks for the question. Now is a good time to go for your consultation. The standard answer for surgery and BMI will be 30 but it is important to be examined even if your BMI is higher because the amount of fat in the areas to be harvested is very important and you have to make sure there is enough in the key areas (waist / back) to make sure that you get the result that you want. Thank you for your question. While there is no specific cut-off BMI to get a Brazillian Butt Lift the higher your BMI preop, the higher the risk of a complication and the lower the likelihood that you will achieve your ideal results. Higher BMI patients have a higher risk of wound healing problems. Higher BMI is also a risk factor for a blood clot after surgery. Lowering your BMI to under 30 with weight loss will help these risk factors but not completely eliminate them. The other concern is the aesthetic results. With a BMI of 32, body contouring procedures tend to be less effective in shaping the desiree waist to hip ratio as a result of excessive intra-abdominal fat. This fat is not accessible to liposuction and will detract from your final outcome and shape. In order to avoid dissapointment, it would be recommended that you loose some additonal weight before contemplating a BBL. Although it is dissapointing to have to wait...in the end you will get a better result that is closer to your ideal. I hope that helps. All the best!
Your BMI is a bit high, but you should go for a consultation to be appropriately evaluated. Best of luck.
The recommended BMI is less than 30. This is the recommendation of the American society of plastic surgery. The reason simply, is increased chance of complications. These include but limited to, pulmonary embolus, deep venous thrombosis, delayed wound healing and increase infection rate. A Brazilian butt lift is a safe and effective procedure that combines liposuction of the abdomen hips waist and back and then fat grafting to the gluteal region. This is a safe and effective way to contour the lower body. After a successful Brazilian Butt lift, the fat that remains will stay there for the rest of your life. Like the rest of the tissue in your body this fat will grow and age with you.Choose a board certified plastic surgeon who has done a ton of Brazilian Butt Lifts and has privileges to do this surgery at a local university hospital. This says his credentials have been checked out by fellow Drs. All surgeries carry risk, talk to your plastic surgeon and choose one wisely. Many surgeons, including myself, offer online virtual consultations where you send us your photos and we can estimate the cost. I, like many surgeons, also offer free consultations so that you can be examined and given the most accurate quote.
BMI can be a useful number, but it has its limitations. Much of that depends on where the weight is actually distributed. I recommend you consult with several plastic surgeons in your area to discuss your surgical options, and the timing of surgery if they do feel that preoperative weight loss would be a safer option for you.Best,Dr. Dan KrochmalMAE Plastic SurgeryNorthbrook, IL
It is recommended that for safety reasons your BMI is 30 or less before surgery, specially when performing BBL . Some patients might be eligible for surgery above 30 , after your surgeon has evaluated which areas will be considered for surgery.Best regards
BMI should be less than 30 prior to elective surgery. Seek a plastic surgeon who performs hundreds of these procedures, has great reviews and photos, and is an expert in this field.
There is not much precedence in this field since it is so new for all of us. I would see a surgeon in your field to see if it is covered. It is worth a chance but I would not get you hopes too high.
Thank you for your question. You can achieve noticeable results with 1,300cc of fat. I would suggest to be treated by board certificated plastic surgeon with experience in this procedure, to get the best desired results. Respectfully,Dr. Emmanuel Mallol Cotes.-
