Will lasers work for scars and bumps on bikini and labia area? (Photos)

Question

I’ve got scars and bumps that always come back and sometime are cystic and mostly from ingrown hairs. I’ve been to doctor and health clinic and nothing. I’m considering trying laser hair removal, will this help get rid of the bumps and scars? I need help

Hello, and thank you for your question. Some people are more genetically susceptible to having ingrown hairs, especially if their hair is course and/or curly. As the hair grows, the hair itself gets trapped underneath the skin yet continues to grow, which results in unsightly and sometimes painful bumps and ingrown hairs. Laser hair removal may help prevent this from happening since, after the treatment is complete, the hair follicle should no longer be able to grow new hair. The lingering scars you have, depending on their severity, may fade over time.

Fraxel and/or CO2 are best for resurfacing, but Erbium is a good alternative. I always combine lasers with microneedling/PRP for more robust outcomes. For skin tightening, I recommend a combination of Ultherapy with RF treatments and Sculptra for skin tightening. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a cosmetic dermatologist. Best, Dr. Emer

Hello, thank you for your question and for including photos.  Sorry to hear that you are having this problem, it is very common with curly hair follicles.  Laser hair reduction will definitely help to prevent further problems and with time it should improve the overall area.  Laser hair reduction is a series of treatments, usually 6-8 done 4 weeks apart in this area.  Make sure that you find a board certified dermatology office for best/safest treatment.  Darker skin types should be extra cautious when doing laser.Good Luck!
