Had filler injected 1 week ago, can see lumpy areas under my skin? (photo)

Had dermal fillers injected into my cheek areas either side of mouth just over a week ago to cover deep lines when I smiled In certain lights you can see very bumpy areas under the skin, like you can see where the filler has been put.I have been told by my doctor this is the normal settling process but am very worried as to what I should do next

Facial fillers using Hyaluronic acid can cause immediate swelling and uneven contour. The swelling usually subsides with time. I recommend applying Plato's Bruise Balm twice daily for a few days after injecting my patients. If the filler lumps do not resolve, then a small injection of Hylenex usually can correct an HA filler that is overdone. If Hylenex does not work, combination injections with verapamil or corticosteroid IIT may help. 
In some cases, Venus Viva RF can help tighten skin thereafter.

HI @Babysroom! I recommend waiting a full two weeks for swelling to resolve. If you are unhappy with the results after two weeks, you can dissolve the the product with Hyaluronidase. Best of luck, Dr. Nima!

One week is too soon for the reaction and swelling to resolve after filler injection. Massage the area and wait for 2-3 weeks. If it does not resolve and was a Hyaluronic Acid filler it can be improved with the injection of Hyaluronidase that dissolves the filler. Best Wishes, Maurice Vick MD

If this was a hyaluronic filler I would not worry.  oftentimes it takes a while (2 weeks or more) for the filler to smooth out.  I usually see my patients back at 2 weeks to reassess. If it is still lumpy I recommend a gentle massage of the area.  Do not worry this should smooth out.  Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved if needed.

Hi and thanks for your question. As most of the fillers are hyaloronic acid which is is natural sugar in the skin they can make small lumps in the first 1-2 weeks after injection and they should resolve . If the filler was injected very superficial this lumps can be felt for longer period of time and needs to be treated with hyaloronidase . I recommend you to wait for another 1-2 weeks and if still feel lumps see your physician

Hi there!
I have extensive experience with dermal filler, so I may be able to help. This is completely normal and typical of Hyaluronic Acid fillers. In most cases, filler can take between 2 weeks to a month to fully settle in and have swelling reside. In this case, I would recommend massaging the area where the lumps have appeared and monitoring for improvement. If nothing has improved after the next 3 weeks, I would advise you to call your doctor for a follow up and see what your next treatment option may be. (Possibly dissolve and re-treatl)
