Infection of BBL should be treated very aggressively. All efforts should be made to see your original surgeon. Should do sonograms and MRI to determine where are the cavities of infection, these should be drained and opened for continuous drainage. Culture of the drainage including strange bacteria like mycobacteria, since this was done overseas. Appropriate antibiotics based on culture and sensitivity. debridement of all necrotic tissue, that may mean multiple surgeries and significant expense.Based on the picture posted, if this shows the drainage of infected material, it is not handled in a proper manner. Low quality

It sounds like drainage and wound care was the right thing to do. What to do now is hard to say without being intimately involved in your care and knowing exactly what is going on. Best to follow closely with your treating doctor.

The first thing I would like to point out is the importance of not traveling long-distance for elective surgical procedures.

Secondly the patients who develop infections should ask their plastic surgeons to refer them to interventional radiology who can with much greater accuracy place at drain for both drainage and irrigation.

Team team approach it’s best that includes the original plastic surgeon, and infectious disease expert and like I mentioned someone from interventional radiology.


Hope at this point your infection is well cleared up and it didn’t cause too much distress or disfigurement.
