Hello, I had an extended TT with lipo 360 9 months ago. My back has ripples, uneven healing, deposits of fat and is very lumpy. My doctor tells me this is edema and will subside . I think I was botched. Can this be fixed by losing weight and exercising or is this permanent damage from a poorly done surgery?

Answer: Loose skin on the back It looks like you have a skin laxity on your back. Skin laxity with the arms in a down position on the back is pretty common. Try putting one arm over your head and stretching your back while looking in the mirror to see if the contour improves with your skin under tension. Alternatively reach around with your hand and pull up on the back to see if the waist contour improves by putting the skin under tension that way. Extending the tummy tuck and removing skin laxity on the backside as an extended or possible wraparound tummy tuck is probably the best choice. When assessing the outcome of a surgical procedure we typically always need to see before and after pictures. If you don’t have before and after pictures ask your surgeon to forward the ones they took. It does not look like poorly done liposuction. It looks like skin laxity that should’ve been addressed before your procedure. differentiating fat distribution in skin laxity is something I deal with on a daily basis when talking to patients. Patients often believe skin laxity represents excess fat. It’s hard to tell exactly how old the procedure was performed without seeing competent before and after pictures. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
