I was expecting the doctor would lipo my very little love handles, but he ruined my waistline instead. He suctioned all the fat in my waistline down to the lovehandles ruining the beautiful curve I had. And the lovehandles are even worse now. Is it possible to give fat back to the suctioned area? Most doctors say the fat won't live there because now there is no fat left there. Is there any hope? Can bbl be reversed?

Answer: Restoring fat after liposuction The more an area has been over treated with Liposuction the harder it is to build up fat using fat grafting. In order for grafting tissue to work there has to be sufficient host tissue to support the graft. In the most simplistic way of explaining this you can expect subcutaneous fat layers to double in an ideal circumstances with one round of fat transfer. In other words if someone has a quarter inch of fat between their skin and muscle then you can possibly build this up to 1/2 inch with one round of fat transfer. If the fat layer is an eighth of an inch then you can build it up to a quarter inch. The more someone was over treated the more difficult it becomes to graft fat in the area. Revision Work is many times more difficult than primary Liposuction or fat transfer so consider that when choosing a provider for revision surgery. Delivering consistent high-quality Liposuction and fat transfer results is far more difficult than most people believe. I continue to warn people to vet plastic surgeons thoroughly and she was the most experienced and talented providers for these procedures. To choose the most experienced provider patients need to have multiple in person consultations and choose their provider carefully. Is it time and energy consuming process that is necessary to weed out those who lack sufficient skill and experience. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
