I'm aware my jawline is moving south (I'm 46), but it also feels like its filling out towards my chin, which could be weight gain (normally 130, now 140). I wonder if a neck lift is best for me, because the space between my chin and throat feel tight, even if I pull up on my neck it feels constricted and not like I'm yanking on excess skin but actually pulling on muscle. For the most part I look really good for my age, aside from my neck/jowls, so any help and/or advice would be appreciated.
Answer: Chin Anatomy Evaluation It would be a good idea to examine your chin anatomy and a bone called the "hyoid" in addition to the loose skin and fat accumulation. Hyoid position is really important because if it is positioned too low and forward then results will not be as good. If a chin is recessed, skin hangs tends to hang and make the neck looks shorter.

Answer: Improving Your Neck - Considerations Recommendations to Improve your neck appearance depends on your exam - Your plastic surgeon will evaluate you for four main features:1.Amount of excess fat (needs lipo or direct removal).2.Presence of Significant Platysmal Banding (requires playsmaplasy or Botox)3.Amount of excess Skin and condition of your skin. For example younger age, darker skin colors and no large weight loss history means there will be better elasticity and therefore better post surgical contraction. In milder cases if not too much fat is present there will be enough skin shrinkage with just lipo alone. However for moderate and severe skin redundancy a neck lift or lower facelift is needed with or without lipo for best results. Mild to minimal skin tightening using non surgical means like the Sciton Laser SkinTyte procedure, Ultherapy or Thermage could also be considered.4. Chin deficiency (without adequate chin support your neckline will suffer)Many issues affect the price: where the procedure will be performed, anesthesia type and by whom, geographical location, experience of the surgeon, etc.

Answer: Mini-Facelift From your photos it appears that you have some looseness of the skin over the lower cheeks, jowls and neck. This would be nicely treated with a mini-facelift (S-Lift).

Answer: Tightneing neck and jawline Good morning!Looking at your photos, I would suggest a lower facelift and neck lift to address the problems. The muscle/fat layer that is giving you laxity in your neck is the same layer of tissue that is giving you the early jowling. Elevation of these tissue will make a big difference in both your neck and jawline.I hope this helps.

Answer: Is neck tightening possible with a smallish space between chin and neck? In almost every case, neck tightening can be expected with a facelift and/ or necklift procedure. The question is how much tightening can be expected. During a necklift consultation your neck will be examined and you should be counseled about how much of a lift can be expected and what procedure would be best. In some cases when the bone and cartilage of the voicebox are low and positioned forward a very marginal lift can be achieved. Your photos actually suggest that you would be a good candidate but that would need to be confirmed during an in person consultation. I hope this information is helpful for you.Stephen Weber MD, FACSDenver Facial Plastic Surgeon
