Is microneedling a good option for an atrophic spot on neck?

About eight months ago, I had a pimple on my neck treated with a Kenalog injection. In hindsight, I’m not sure the injection was performed skillfully, and I’ve been left with a persistent atrophied spot at the injection site. Roughly a month after the atrophy appeared, I underwent two rounds of saline injections to help flush out any remaining steroid. At this point, I’m trying to decide on next steps—should I attempt another saline injection, or move forward with microneedling instead? My goal is simply to restore the skin to as close to normal as possible.

This is a known complication of steroid injections—unfortunately, even when done correctly, it can happen.

What’s going on:
The steroid caused localized fat and collagen loss
That’s why you see a depression
Your current options:
1. More saline injections
Can help early
Less effective this far out (8 months)
2. Microneedling
Helps stimulate collagen
Works gradually
Best for mild atrophy
3. Other options (often more effective):
Diluted filler (to lift the area)
Collagen stimulators
My recommendation:

Microneedling is reasonable—but don’t expect a full correction with that alone. Combination treatment is usually needed for best results.

If the area is still indented, then another round of saline injections would not be unreasonable. However, if the residual problems are that of texture or dyspigmentation, then manually performed, Dermastamp microneedling (no need for the added expense or risks of RF microneedling) would be a reasonable next step, since microneedling is best reserved for addressing very superficial, surface skin texture and/or pigmentation issues. You would be wise to make sure to consult with an experienced, board certified cosmetic dermatologist. Hope this helps and best of luck. .
