I had a breast augmentation 12 days ago. I had an inframamary incision and implant placed behind the muscle. My right breast developed 3-4 days ago a burning sensation- like fire that comes and goes on one small spot below the nipple to the right side close to the incision. Not warm to touch or red. It gets worse when I have to massage the breast specially when moving implant down. Is this normal?
Answer: Hypersensitivity following Breast Augmentation Congratulations on your recent breast augmentation! Recovery can be such an exciting but also nerve-wrecking time for patients especially in the immediate post-operative period. As your body heals the tissue, skin and nerves are all recovering from the shock or disruption of normal function by surgery leading to a patient experience that can range from a loss of sensation to hypersensitivity in the areas treated. With breast augmentation it is not uncommon for patients to experience both loss of sensation and hypersensitivity (as in your case) as the tissue is stretching to accommodate the additional volume of your implant. I encourage all patients to address any concerns with their board certified plastic surgeon, but it is likely that this hypersensitivity will resolve over the next few weeks and next few months. Although fever, chills, redness or incision issues are not your concern, if they do arise for any reason they should be brought to the attention of your operating surgeon immediately at an in person follow up. I hope that you find this helpful and I wish you all of the best. Congratulations again!

Answer: Burning sensation on left breast after augmentation Thank you for your question and congratulations on your surgery! After an augmentation the nerves of the skin are stretched as a result of swelling and the increased volume of the implants. This stretching irritates the nerves which can cause a number of different nipple and breast skin sensations including increased/decreased sensitivity or a burning/electrical feeling. These normally resolve spontaneously given enough time. Hang in there and be sure to mention these issues to your surgeon during your post-operative appointments.

Answer: Burning pain after augmentation It is not uncommon to have various uncomfortable sensations of all kinds after this surgery. The good news is that for the VAST MAJORITY of patients they resolve after weeks/months. For most patients it can be six months or more before pretty much all of the "reminders" of surgery stop occurring.
