Started developing extreme dry/cracked skin w/a clear sticky discharge from areola 3mo ago. My plastic surgeon thinks its just dry skin & maybe my milk ducts leaking. It dries into a yellow crust and sticks to eveeything. The skin on/around areola has become extremely discolored, itchy, red, cracked & raised. Moved out of state went to an urgent care, was prescribed clindamycin for 7 days due to bacteria presence found in discharge. 4wks later and its worsening. Getting scared, what should I do?

Answer: Irritation and drainage after Augmentation Thank you for submitting your photos. It is very unlikely that this is leakage from your implants themselves. Normally your body makes a very nice capsule surrounding the implants even if you had a problem with the implant. It would be maintained by that capsule. I see that you have dumbbell shaped rings through your nipples which could lead to the problem. Less expensive rings like the rings you probably have that aren't pure silver, or 24 Karat gold contain a metal called nickel. People develop an allergy to this type of jewelry over time and that could be a cause for the skin irritation. Getting either 24 kt gold or pure silver dumbbells may get rid of the problem. The second possibility is that of a pituitary adenoma. This is a gland in your brain that makes your milk let down even if you're not pregnant and can be checked with a simple blood tests for a parathyroid hormone level. I would certainly start by getting either rid of the dumbbells or using better quality rings and then see if your skin settles with that. If it does not, I would see somebody to get a parathormone level tested. I wish you the best of luck with this. I don't feel there is anything likely wrong with your implants. An ultrasound could be done of your breasts to help determine that the implants are indeed ok, but that is not where I would start.
