Asian eyelids surgery: Do I need to see a surgeon that specializes in Asian eyelids or is the surgery straight forward?

I have hooded monolids that are getting worse. I want to remove some of the heaviness and get better symmetry. I don’t necessarily want a big double eyelid. Do I need to see a surgeon that specializes in Asian eyelids? As in, is there something about Asian anatomy that requires special training or is it straight forward?

You should definitely find someone who specializes in asian eyelid surgery.  The anatomy of the eyelids differs significantly enough between Asians and Caucasions that the same surgery in one group may not be appropriate in the other.  My advice is to look at surgeon's photos and see if they have a number of Asians in their galleries.  That will give you a good indication of whether Asians are a large part of the practice. Asian blepharoplasty is different from other eyelid surgery for both anatomical and aesthetic reasons.  The shape, height and formation of the crease is different in Asian patients, so it's important to find a surgeon specializing in Asian blepharoplasty.  Most surgeons who do not perform a lot of Asian eyelid surgery do not routinely perform supratarsal fixation or epicanthoplasty - two techniques commonly necessary in Asian blepharoplasty. If you want the best idea of what is possible for your eyes, do your due diligence, find an experienced surgeon, and have him/her evaluate you in person and discuss your options. #drdonyoo

It is important to see a surgeon who has experience in any particular procedure you are interested in and that includes Asian upper blepharoplasty.
