My Daughter Has Always Been Chubby? Liposuction an Option?

She never wants to go out and refuses to get new clothes because she feels there is no point. She's always been on the chubby side and she tries so hard with exercising and healthy food. But nothing works.She wants to be thin so badly.

Liposuction is not a weight loss procedure, nor will it make someone thin who is not at their ideal body weight.  Your daughter needs to see a physician about weight loss, nutrition and exercise.

Lipopsuction is not a weight loss surgery. Instead, it is meant to contour adult patients who are within just a few pounds of their ideal body weight. You haven't mentioned your daughter's age, but if she is a teenager then she is still growing and her body will continue to change. She also has to achieve the appropriate level of maturity to have realistic expectations of the surgery. Assuming that she is otherwise healthy, my suggestion would be to take her for a consultation with a registered dietician rather than a surgeon at this point.

Liposuction can help areas that are recalcitrant to diet and exercise.  It might give her better contour but an exam in person is necessary.

The life action posted photos are nice but are really not helpful in her nude appearance. If she does not want to diet and exercise than using liposuction surgery is a risk or escape. Best to seek IN PERSON evaluations from boarded Pss in your city./

Thanks for your question. Liposuction is not a good answer for generalized "chubbiness", and it definitely is not a good option for weight loss. It is best used for discrete areas of resistant fullness when someone is already at their ideal weight (ie, saddlebag area). The best option for your daughter (by far) would be to help in some way to increase activity, improve nutrition, facilitate exercise, all of which will have a far superior outcome for her than a surgical procedure. Your daughter appears to be fairly young, so she can still make changes to achieve the size she wants. I suggest you have your family physician examine her to make sure she has no medical reason, like a low thyroid level, for the excess weight. Then, I would suggest taking her to someone who will evaluate her eating habits, and exercise routine, and design a program that will work for her. Liposuction will not make her thin, nor keep her thin. Liposuction is for localized areas of fat. Eating mainly fruits, vegetables, and protein, and daily exercise, especially a weight training program, will help give her the results she wants. You will need to help encourage her, and help her stay with her program. Remove sugar from her diet. She will not loose weight by eating pizza and drinking cokes.

Occasionally I have done liposuction on overweight patients. In most cases it has worked out well, as long as the patient has realistic expectations.The photos dont help very much, and her age was not mentioned. A plastic surgeon who does a lot of lipo should evaluate her and review her options with her.
