Is it safe to donate eggs once you’ve had a breast augmentation?

Hi, I am an egg donor and is having a breast augmentation in June. My fertility clinic wants me to do a donation cycle in August. I was wondering if it is safe to donate eggs once you’ve had a breast augmentation? And if so, how much time in between is safe? My plastic surgeon said it takes 4-6 weeks to fully recover.

Your surgeon's recommendation is reasonable. By then you should be off all medications. Always best to check in with your harvesters to see if you might have any other restrictions. This is a question you'll want to discuss directly with your plastic surgeon and the surgeon performing the egg harvest as the timing between anesthesia events is important. Additionally, your plastic surgeon may want to limit your infection risk from intraabdominal surgery too soon after your implants. Breast augmentation is an exciting procedure and education is very important.

As a plastic surgeo I can not see the reason why you should not donate egg after heving breast augmentation surgery. You may consider discussing the same issue with gynecologyst, fertility specialist. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your question. You should be able to donate eggs after your breast augmentation. However, you should talk to your doctor at the fertility clinic to make sure that enough time has passed between having had anesthesia for the breast aug and the egg harvest.

Harvesting eggs for donation is performed with laparoscopical procedure and needs general anesthesia or at least sedation. 4 weeks after breast augmentation seems a good choice. From another viewpoint, although it is a cosmetic procedure, subjected surgical stress may interfere with ovulation and ovulatory hormones. Eggs are limited in number for each woman so I would suggest you to postpone breast augmentation after successful collection of quality eggs.
