I have Morphea Scleroderma, I would love and need a breast lift/reduction. The summer is brutal for me. My bra rubs underneath and it kills me. I have had surgeries in the past that were non-cosmetic and I have healed just fine. Never one single issue on any major surgeries. I am hoping that I can get insurance to cover the cost. Do you think that is likely?
Answer: Breast lift Dear gwennieish, my preferred lift is a lollipop lift when a periareolar won't do (ie greater than 2cm lift required). The lollipop technique was created by a Canadian plastic surgeon named Elizabeth Hall-Findley and treats the breast as a three dimensional structure instead of two dimensions (anchor - lift). Most importantly it does not require the horizontal component scars that the anchor-lift requires and breasts appear much more natural, lifted, and less boxy. Lastly, the lift lasts longer because the lollipop doesn't rely on the skin to hold the breast up, its actually breast tissue thats being brought together to support the breast and hence improves longevity. If you are considering surgery, I would suggest you consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination, you will get more information and recommendations. Answer: Breasts Yes, you should be able to have a breast reduction. Start with your primary care physician to get the ball rolling to see if insurance will cover this for you. Your physician will need to treat you at least three months for rashes underneath your breasts. You may also need to loose some weight so that you qualify for the reduction. A certain amount of breast tissue must be removed to be covered and it is often based on weight. If you loose weight, but your breasts do not get smaller, that is very helpful to use for the approval.

Answer: More information needed Insurance companies do not pay for breast lift and not all reductions. From your photograph, it appears you need more lift than reduction. Morphea Scleroderma can be an issue if you are on immunosuppression as that will interfere with you wound healing. More information is needed to give you a more accurate answer. Best Wishes, Gary Horndeski, M.D.
