I am a big fan of it, was going 5 times a week pre-op. For those of you who knows Hot Yoga, I am talking about the advanced classes. Lot's of downward facing dog, push ups, plank... From what I realize, we use the arms and upper body a lot... Sometimes we keep a position for few minutes and most of our weight is distribute between upper and lower body.Mostly upper in some positions. So my question is, can I start hot yoga in 5 weeks? If it's to soon, when is it officially OK to start full force?
Answer: Post Op Downtime, Recovery and Activities Hi anonyme84, Downtime and recovery after breast augmentation surgery varies. The majority of breast augmentation patients need one week of downtime. Depending on the work environment (heavy lifting, etc) more time off may be necessary. Patients are encouraged to walk immediately after surgery to avoid blood clots in the legs. When it comes to exercising and other activities, it may also vary depending on the type of exercises or activities you are going to perform. I suggest that you follow your plastic surgeon’s post-operative instructions, especially on the level of activity that you can do and your scheduled follow up checkups, for faster healing and recovery. Answer: Postponing Yoga After a Breast Augmentation Thank you very much for your question and congratulations on your breast augmentation. Exercise and heavy lifting need to be postponed for four to six after a breast augmentation procedure. This is important to ensure the breasts are healing properly and to keep the risk for compilations down. Follow your operating surgeon’s advice closely during this time period. He/she will tell you when it is ok to head back into the gym or yoga studio.

Answer: Exercise and Yoga following Breast Augmentation Surgery Although patients are encouraged to get up and moving and not remain in bed following surgery, they are advised to abstain from heavy lifting and vigorous exercise for approximately 6 weeks following a breast augmentation surgery. During this time patients wear a special surgical garment for additional support. Patients returning to an exercise regiment should start off slowing and gradually work their way back up to what they were accustomed to prior to surgery. Your post operative team will inform you weekly what you can start introducing back into your routine and how much weight is safe to lift during your recovery period. Hot Yoga poses additional risks to you while you are healing. Patients are advised to avoid activities that can risk infection during recovery such as the use of hot tubs, saunas and trips to the spa. A yoga studio, especially one that turns up the heat, can be a breading ground for bacteria that can lead to infections. The concern isn't only the area of surgery but patients should be extra cautious during their recovery period when the body is already compromised and working extra hard to heal from surgery, you don't want to throw in an unwanted illness or infection during this time. Speak to your surgeon regarding what activities you should avoid and for how long. It's tough for physically active patients to remain inactive for such a long time, but its worth it in the end.

Answer: Breast Augmentation Recovery anonyme. I appreciate your compassion for yoga and working out, but the advice I give my patients is no strong physical activity, cardio, or heavy lifting involving the chest muscles for four weeks after breast augmentation. The issue is possible postoperative bleeding which can be triggered by working out too early after surgery. Seek out a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon to discuss all aspects of recovery after your breast augmentation surgery. Good luck.
