Am I too fat to get Rhinoplasty under general anesthesia?

Hello and thank you for your question.  There is nothing specific regarding rhinoplasty that is contraindicated by being overweight.  However, any procedure that requires general anesthesia, you will have a much lower risk of complication from anesthesia if you are closer to your ideal body weight.  I highly recommend losing weight prior to surgery so that you can have a safer outcome.  I also recommend consultation with a qualified board-certified plastic surgeon.Best wishes and good luck.

It is always better to get down to a healthy BMI before undergoing surgery. Best to review this with your surgeon.

 In our practice, the anesthesia doctors have a limit when patient's BMI must be under 34 For elective cosmetic surgery, including a rhinoplasty. At that weight, more complications are likely to occur.

  Hi, I have performed and taught Rhinoplasty for 30 years.  The safety issue would be decided by your internist and will be based upon your blood pressure, airway status and general medical health.  Rhinoplasty can be performed if your internist gives you medical clearance to do so at 290, 260 or whatever your weight.  Hope this helps.
