What can I do to prevent an ear cartilage pierced before starting Accutane from scarring? (photos)

Hi mgracia.pino,Healing appropriately while on isotretinoin (generic accutane) is always a concern. It is difficult to know if this is something called granulation tissue which is exagerrated healing scar tissue or if you are developing a thick scar called a hypertrophic scar.  I commonly see this with ear and nose piercings. Cartilage can become inflamed and increase scar tissue formation.  A dermatologist can feel the bump to assess its consistency.  Sometimes a tiny bit of steroid injected into that little bump can calm things down.  Until then, keep it clean with regular soap and water and covered in vaseline all day.  No alcohol, no peroxide, and try not to sleep on that side to reduce irritation.  If it becomes painful or drains constantly you may need to make sure infection isn't an issue.
