Hi, Since I was 4 or 5 y.o., I have suffered from excessive sweating. Over the decades, I have never addressed the issue. But for the past year, I have started going to work by foot, which means I have to change t shirt several times a day. Since my entire back and chest is sweating profusely, is botox unrealistic (zone size) or still doable? What treatments are possible for large zones?
Answer: Botox for chest and back Thank you for your question and photos.Sweating during a workout is normal and expected. I do not believe you should treat chest or back with botox as it would be a very large dose and you may experience overcompensation of sweating elsewhere. If you take oral medication, it may dry out your entire body areas such as eyes and mouth and may give you blurry vision. This is to be discussed with your prescribing doctor. They also have medicated anti sweat prescription wipes that may work better for you because you can target the area, which is worth a try.You can also try wearing a cooling anti sweatshirts while working out. The brand which provides great anti sweat clothes are BloqUV.You can also visit hyperhidrosis society website and read what worked for other people with similar concernAnother option is to try RF microneedling to target and destroy the sweat glands in your skin to help and reduce the sweat. It is an expertly done procedure and the results will vary based on provider experience. The last resort is always surgery . Hope some of it helps. Good luck in your journey and hope you get to share what worked for you with others undergoing the same concern. Have a beautiful day. Best, Dr. Anna Avaliani

Answer: I am unaware of any successful treatments for hyperhidrosis of the chest and back. Sweating is a normal biological function that is meant to keep your body cool: especially when walking in the heat.... Some people sweat more than other people, and some people sweat in different locations. I don't think that it is possible to prevent Excessive sweating of your chest and back. Some people perspire more when they are overweight. If you would benefit from losing 5 or 10 lb, this may be helpful for your condition. Thank you for your question. Sincerely, Dr Joseph

Answer: Treatments are possible for large zones Botox is indeed a treatment option for hyperhidrosis. It works by blocking the nerves responsible for activating your sweat glands. However, it is typically used for smaller areas like the underarms, hands, feet, or face. For larger areas like the back and chest, Botox may not be the most practical or cost-effective solution due to the volume of Botox that would be required. Here are some other treatment options for hyperhidrosis:1. Topical Antiperspirants are typically the first line of treatment for hyperhidrosis and can be used on the back and chest. The most effective ones contain aluminum chloride hexahydrate.2. Oral Medications anticholinergic drugs can help prevent sweat gland activation throughout your body, but they may have side effects like dry mouth, blurred vision, and heart palpitations.3. Iontophoresis treatment uses a device to pass a mild electrical current through water and onto the skin's surface, effectively blocking the sweat glands. It's typically used for hands and feet but can be used for other areas with special equipment.4. miraDry is a non-invasive treatment that uses microwave energy to permanently destroy sweat glands. It's currently FDA-approved for underarm use, but clinical trials are ongoing for other parts of the body.

Answer: Medication is usually recommended. For widespread hyperhidrosis like yours, medication is usually recommended. For now, you should make lifestyle efforts to avoid sudden changes in temperature and humidity and lead a regular lifestyle.Medication can be used in a variety of ways, but anticholinergics are usually the first-line medication. This is not a cure, but rather a way to avoid social discomfort on important days like meetings and presentations. As such, they need to be taken temporally and usually last a day or so.Of course, Botox treatments can also provide results that last 4-5 months, but if you're not covered by insurance, the financial cost can be an issue.Surgically, you could also consider a Endoscopic sympathicotomy surgery, but you'll have to be careful with this option due to the many side effects.
