I am 4 weeks post-op breast reduction and would like to know can I use the biocorneum as well asvitamin E oil? if so which one should I apply first?
Answer: Vitamin E and Biocorneum for Scars It is generally not necessary to use vitamin E oil with BioCorneum because BioCorneum already contains everything needed for optimal scar healing. BioCorneum is specifically designed for scar care, and adding vitamin E may not provide additional benefits. Typically, BioCorneum is applied twice daily for about 3 months starting around 2-4 weeks after the surgery or incision. Scarring outcomes are predominately a product of genetics and tension on the incision, and silicone-based treatments (like taping or gel). Answer: Can vitamin E oil be used with the biocorneum? In general, scarring is a product of genetics. Some people are good scar formers and others are poorer scar formers. There is no one best therapy for scars. Silicone sheets, Mederma, and Biocorneum are reasonable and popular options. I recommend that the scar therapy begin after the scars have healed and there are no open areas, which usually takes 4 to 6 weeks.Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA
