Am I candidate for a lower body lift or a FDL (fleur de lis) tummy tuck? (photos)

Question

Lost a significant amount of weight and have had six pregnancies. My doctor had stated a LBL may be beneficial. I’m scheduled for a FDL. Will a LBL help me or will I have a to a of excess skin above?

Thank you for your question. You can have either procedure but if you want a very tight abdomen, a fleur de lis pattern abdominoplasty will give you a better result, although with an additional scar. . Please discuss your concerns with your plastic surgeon who can give you pros and cons of both procedures to help you make a  choice. All the best!

Without more photos, it's challenging to give a specific recommendation. However, considering your history of multiple pregnancies and significant weight loss, you might benefit most from a lower body lift. This procedure is designed to address excess skin around the entire waistline, both in the front and the back, which could potentially yield a more desirable result.

On the other hand, a Fleur de Lis (FDL) tummy tuck is excellent for addressing excess skin in both the vertical and horizontal dimensions of the abdomen. It can also improve the waistline and upper abdominal contour. Whether this procedure alone leaves you with excess skin above depends on the quantity and distribution of your existing skin laxity.

Based on a limited photo- you appear to be a good candidate for Extended or Circumferencial TT/ Buttock lift ( exam is needed-no photos of other areas were provided) with Fleur De Lis. Congratulations on your impressive weight loss!  It's difficult to say whether you'd benefit from a circumferential tummy tuck without seeing how much excess skin you have in the back.  If it is significant then an incision that goes all the way around the body at the hip area can remove a significant amount of the excess skin. However, based on your frontal photo, I can say with a high degree of confidence that you need a lower body lift.  A circumferential lower body lift will lift the lateral thigh and gluteal areas while managing your skin excess.

You need a lower body lift to remove as much excess skin as possible all the way around. Because you have a good amount of stretch marks in your abdomen you will additionally need FDL.
