Are nose fillers safe?

Nonsurgical nose jobs using volumizing fillers is certainly nothing new. I personally have been performing them for well over a decade.  The before and after photos of one of my nonsurgical rhinoplasty patients in the side bar to this column was in fact taken more than ten years ago and was digitalized from my old Polaroid collection. Nonsurgical nose jobs have a long track record of safety and efficacy in the hands of an experienced board certified aesthetic physician who performs them on a regular basis. They typically take no more than about five minutes to perform. Make sure you check out the before and after photos of any physician you are considering for performing this procedure.

While the hyaluronic acid fillers such as Restylane and Juvederm are generally very safe, any filler treatment does come with certain risks.  The most common risks are bruising and swelling, but more serious complications - while rare - are still possible.  Especially with the delicate blood supply to the nose, there is a risk of vascular complications.  This makes it all the more important to find a rhinoplasty specialist experienced in nonsurgical rhinoplasty to reduce those risks.  Nonsurgical rhinoplasty is temporary, and will last on average 6-9 months with Restylane.  

Fillers can improve nasal contour.  With the tip, there is increased danger or occluding a blood vessel.  I suggest you see an expert for an evaluation and treatment.  Best, Dr. Emer.
